Its fame began with Publius Valerius Publicola, a founder of the Republic who defended citizens’ rights. The Valerii produced many consuls and generals, including Marcus Valerius Corvus, famed for his duel with a raven’s aid. Though their power faded by the late Republic, their legacy endured.
