Description
The Município de Nisa is a Municipality located at the Portuguese-Leonese Border. The Municipality originated in 1199 when the lands of the municipality along with other nearby municipalities were donated to the Templars. The Templars helped repopulate the area, they encouraged settlers from Nice to settle which is where Nisa got their name, which means New Nice. The town received the title of "Notable" by King John I. The town would later on be elevated into a March/Marquisate by King John III.
