The United States Special Operations Command is a unified combatant command responsible for overseeing all special operations forces of the U.S. Armed Forces. These forces include the Army Special Forces (also known as Green Berets), Navy SEALs, Air Force Special Tactics Squadrons, and Marine Corps Special Operations Command. Special Operations Command was established in 1987 and is headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. The command is responsible for planning and executing special operations missions worldwide, including counter-____ operations, unconventional warfare, and special reconnaissance. Special Operations Command is critical in protecting U.S. national security and is regarded as one of the world's most elite and capable military organizations.
