Description
HISTORY In the late 19th century, the Pontic Republic emerged as a response to Ottoman rule, inspired by the successful Cretan uprising. Fueled by grievances of discrimination and economic hardship, Pontic people rose in defiance in 1898. Led by charismatic leaders, the rebellion gained international sympathy, pressuring the Ottoman Empire into negotiations. Mediated by European powers, an agreement was reached, granting Pontus independence. The establishment of the Pontic Republic marked a pivotal moment, ushering in cultural revival, economic growth, and political reform. With its own elected institutions, the republic embarked on a journey of nation-building guided by democratic principles. Despite challenges, including ethnic tensions and external threats, the Pontic Republic serves as a beacon of hope on the black sea. Zíto o Póntos!
