Description
A Company, 1st (Australian) Infantry Battalion The 1st Infantry Battalion was a unit raised at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, for service in the Australian Imperial Force. The Battalion was raised within a fortnight of the declaration of war in August of 1914 and embarked two months later. The Battalion saw its first action in the British campaign against the Ottoman Empire, and later in March 1916 sailed to France where it served for the remainder of the war.
