The Imperial Navy, often known as Imperial Starfleet or the Imperial Fleet, was the Galactic Empire's naval branch. It was founded after the Clone Wars, when the Chancellor turned the Galactic Republic he presided over into an authoritarian Empire. The Imperial Navy, which mostly consisted of Star Destroyers and TIE/LN starfighters, was entrusted with preserving order in the galaxy and favored starships with straight-lined forms.
