Though smaller in number than the great continental armies, its strength lay in iron discipline, rigorous drill, and unyielding resolve. Drawn from across the British Isles and its growing empire, its soldiers marched beneath the Union flag with loyalty to Crown and country, confident in their training and steadfast in battle.
