Description
For the campaign of 1758, the plan was for the regiment to return to Halifax for the expedition against Louisbourg, but the regiment was suffering from widespread scurvy and the 77th Foot was sent to Halifax instead. In Spring, the 42nd was assigned to the expedition against Carillon (present-day ############ under James Abercromby. On July 5, it was embarked at the head of Lake George. On July 6, at daybreak, the British flotilla reached the narrow channel leading into Lake Champlain near Fort Carillon and disembarkation began at 9:00 a.m.. On July 8, the regiment took part in the disastrous Battle of Carillon CO: XO:
