The Galactic Empire, declared as the First Galactic Empire, commonly referred to as simply the Empire or Palpatine's Empire, also known as the New Order, and remembered as the Old Empire, was the authoritarian regime that replaced the Galactic Republic at the end of the Clone Wars and ushered the galaxy into a new #### The Empire was secretly controlled by the Sith, however, for its ruler was Darth Sidious, known publicly as Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine, whose reign was enforced by Darth Vader. It lasted from 19 BBY to 5 ABY as a government, and lasted until 19 ABY as various remnants scattered across the galaxy, eventually reforming into the First Order.
