Diciο Pontificia #152039600
Description
📜The Papal States began in the 8th century when Pepin the Short granted land to the Pope, forming a theocratic state ruled by the pontiff. For centuries, the Popes governed central Italy as both spiritual and temporal leaders. - During the Napoleonic Wars, the Papal States faced major disruption. In 1797, after Napoleon's victories in Italy, Pope Pius VI was forced to cede territory. In 1798, French troops entered Rome, declared the Roman Republic, and exiled the Pope, who died in captivity. - In 1800, Pius VII restored papal rule, but in 1809, Napoleon annexed the Papal States into the French Empire and imprisoned the Pope. Papal rule was effectively ended until Napoleon’s fall in 1814, when the Papal States were restored. 🌿"Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat" 🌿"Christ conquers, Christ reigns, Christ commands"
