THE OLD GUARD The 3rd U.S. Infantry, traditionally known as "The Old Guard," is the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving our nation since 1784. The Old Guard is the Army's official ceremonial unit. The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment strives to create tomb sentinels with exemplary qualities, who seek the honor of guarding the tomb, and who will communicate it's story to the world.
