In 1825, Ludvig I had taken the throne of Bavaria and had focused on infrastructural and industrialization efforts to better the nation. However, due to the revolutions in 1848, he abdicated the throne and had given it to Maximillian II. Ludvig had taken over where in 1866, the Austro-Prussian war began with Bavaria fighting on the side of Austria.
