Description
────── ୨୧ ────── In 1873, Liverpool shipping merchant Frederick Richards Leyland founded the Leyland Line after acquiring the fleet of John Bibby, Sons & Co. The company quickly became a major North Atlantic shipping line, operating services between Liverpool and ports in the United States. Many Leyland vessels were built by British shipyards, including Harland & Wolff of Belfast. Following Leyland’s death in 1892, the company later became part of J. P. Morgan’s International Mercantile Marine Company in 1902. The line is best remembered for owning the S.S. Californian, the ship involved in the events surrounding the Titanic disaster in 1912. Declining trade and economic difficulties eventually led to the company’s closure, with the last Leyland Line ship being sold in 1935. ────── ୨୧ ────── FLEET: [ No Ships, Yet. ] (Maybe)
