La Banca Napoli è stata fondata nel 1861 come "Banca Nazionale del Regno" e ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale nella storia economica dell'Italia. Durante il Regno delle Due Sicilie, la Banca Napoli era la banca di emissione e regolamentazione del sistema finanziario del regno, fornendo prestiti ai commercianti e alle imprese locali. Dopo l'unificazione italiana, la Banca Nazionale del Regno fu nazionalizzata e trasformata nella Banca Nazionale Italiana. Tuttavia, nel 1913 la sede della Banca Nazionale Italiana a Napoli fu scorporata per creare la Banca Napoli, una banca regionale autonoma. Negli anni '70, la Banca Napoli ha iniziato a espandersi oltre i confini regionali e ha aperto filiali in altre parti d'Italia.
