Description
In Viking Scandinavia, Jarl is the noble title in the Norse countries for chieftains who are second only to the king in rank. Specifically in Denmark, the title of Jarl was also the King of Denmark's deputy, which during the time of Canute the Great, was Ulf Thorgilsson who was also Jarl of Scania which had been part of Denmark since the Danish kings conquered it. For a long time was a Danish heartland and referred to as the dangerous peninsula (Skathinawjo) due to how difficult it was to sail around the area. It was also Denmark's most important and wealthiest area. The territory of Scania during the days of Caunte the Great and his father Sven I Forkbeard; the craftsmen and educated elite consisted mainly of Englishmen who had been brought over from England via the Anglo-Scandinavian kings.
