Description
# SHINSENGUMI︱新選組 "NEWLY SELECTED CORPS" *The Shinsengumi was a legendary group of samurai who served as the elite police force of the Tokugawa shogunate during the late Edo period in Japan. Founded in 1863, they were tasked with maintaining order and suppressing anti-Tokugawa rebellions in the capital city of Kyoto. The Shinsengumi was known for their bravery, loyalty, and martial prowess, earning them a reputation as one of the most feared and respected fighting forces in Japanese history. Led by Kondō Isami and Hijikata Toshizō, the Shinsengumi played a key role in several major battles, including the Boshin War and the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. Despite their impressive record, the Shinsengumi ultimately disbanded in 1869 with the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate. Their legacy, however, has endured, inspiring countless works of fiction, art, and literature in Japan and beyond.*
