Description
Long before Elko grew into a notable settlement, the small riverside communities along the Volga relied on its waters for fishing, trade, and seasonal gatherings. When disputes arose between villages, the elders decided they needed a shared place of judgment, neutral ground where decisions could be made fairly. To mark this space, they built a Throne, made from the rivers wood that would flow down stream. That simple river-worn chair became known as the Throne of Elko, as a symbol of royalty, and a reminder of cooperation, fairness, and the common lifeline the Elkan villages provided to all who lived along its acres.
