佛光山是大乘教团，为释星云法师创办,（其他为法鼓山、中台山、慈济基金会）。至2-0-1-7年，佛光山在全世界共设有许多余座别院或分院道场。 佛光山不仅融和了汉传佛的传统，集教育、慈善、修持的要旨于“动”中修禅、于“众”中行佛，完成##的现代化及开阔性，并致力于南传北传的佛文化交流，强调遵循的是释迦陀的本怀，是弘扬佛的人间性理念的人间##团。 佛光山共同建构现代化的大乘中教菩萨道场暨以佛在家信众为主体会员的国际佛光会组织，奉持释星云“给人信心、给人欢喜、给人希望、给人方便，倡导“做好事、说好话、存好心”的良好运动，将净化人们“身、口、意”与慈悲喜舍的修行要诀，化作现代话的语言与面貌，推展并落实在佛光山道场建筑设计的概念及日常行动上。它是具足的庄严佛的圣地。 佛光山的宗旨是使佛成为社会的中流砥柱，也因此在世界各地建设佛道场，并建立了许多以佛为中心的大学院校，是承接释星云法师的人间佛宏愿理想而使佛在世界各地都开花结果。 阿弥陀佛！
