The Republic of China was established in 1912, after the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China. It was headed by President, a former general who had played a key role in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty. Under the Republic of China, China was plagued by political instability, corruption, and warlordism.
