Description
Lindon, also called Ossiriand in the Elder Days, was a fair region in the far west of Middle-earth, lying between the Blue Mountains and the Great Sea. After the destruction of Beleriand at the end of the First Age, Lindon remained as one of the few lands west of the Blue Mountains to survive, becoming the chief realm of the High Elves in Middle-earth. It was ruled by Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor, and was a place of peace, learning, and refuge for the Eldar who did not depart to the Undying Lands. From Lindon’s Grey Havens, built by the shipwright Círdan, many Elves later sailed west across the sea, including those who would eventually leave during the time of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, making Lindon a lasting symbol of the fading Elven presence in Middle-earth.
