Description
Unofficially founded October 13th, 1775, later ratified by President John Adams on April 30th, 1798, signed a congressional act formally establishing the United States Navy. By the end of 1798, the navy owned 14 completed warships and had more under construction. Dedicated to defending the United States at sea, the navy helped the fledgling nation solidify its place among world powers leading up to the late 19th century. “Non sibi sed patriae” ⚓🦅
