Leinster Guard Infantry #15976816
Description
A professional body of infantry was needed to stand toe-to-toe with the professional soldiers of the British Army. Those volunteers from Leinster proved to be more than adequate for such a task, with many being former soldiers and officers of the campaigns during the American Revolution. With Leinster being a wealthy province, those who sought to join the 'Leinster Guard' were required to purchase their own uniforms before they were given a weapon. Many former officers put forward their own money as loans to fill the ranks of their regiments, leading to the Guard infantry having the only full uniform set in the United Irishmen.
