Ejército Españo Bourbon - Napoleonic Era During the Napoleonic era, the Ejército Español Bourbon was a key force in the Iberian Peninsula, playing a pivotal role in the Peninsular War (1808-1814) against Napoleon’s French Empire. Initially, the Spanish army faced internal struggles, including political turmoil and outdated strategies. However, after the invasion of Spain by French forces, the Ejército Español became the backbone of the resistance, alongside British and Portuguese forces. The army was composed of both regular troops and irregular units such as guerillas, who fought fiercely against the French occupation. The Ejército Español Bourbon saw significant reorganization and reform during the conflict, and despite initial defeats, they played a major role in the eventual liberation of Spain. Spain was an essential ally to Britain, with leaders like the Duke of Wellington supporting Spanish forces and coordinating with Spanish commanders to defeat the French.
