Description
The Ministry of Revenue (အခေါက်ဝန်, Akaukwun) stood as the lifeblood of the Konbaung state, sustaining both the splendor of the court and the power of its armies. From the collection of land taxes and tributes to the control of royal monopolies in teak, oil, gems, and salt, this ministry ensured the endless flow of wealth into the royal treasury. It financed campaigns against Siam, the defense against Qing invasions, and the construction of fortresses and palaces that defined the empire. Without its meticulous management of resources, the grandeur of the Third Burmese Empire could not have endured.
