Shaq, as he is commonly known, was born in 1972 and grew up in Newark, New Jersey. His dominant size and strength made him a natural choice for basketball, and he quickly began to excel in the game. He went on to attend Louisiana State University, where he was a two-time All-American and was named the National College Player of the Year in 1991. Shaq was then drafted by the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft, and went on to have an illustrious career. He was a 15-time NBA All-Star and was a four-time NBA Champion, three times with the Los Angeles Lakers and once with the Miami Heat. He was also named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2000. He was known for his powerful dunks and his ability to take over a game.
