Strathmore Corrections Corporation (SCC) is an American private prison operator headquartered in Reston, Virginia, formed in 1987 through Strathmore International's acquisition and merger of two regional corrections firms: Belmont Detention Services, founded in Louisiana in 1979, and Hartwell Security Corporation, founded in Ohio in 1981. SCC grew rapidly through the 1990s and 2000s, securing state and federal contracts across more than twenty states. Its flagship facility, ADX Ridgemont, opened in Fremont County, Colorado in 1998 under a joint state-federal contract. Ridgemont was designed as a single-campus, multi-classification facility housing minimum, low, medium, high, and administrative-maximum populations within one perimeter.
