NATO—After World War II, in order to contain the Soviet Union and maintain its dominant position in Europe, the United States, together with some Western European countries, officially established the North Atlantic Treaty Organization on April 4, 1949. Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. NATO possesses a large number of nuclear weapons and conventional forces, making it an important military force in the West. This is a symbol of the capitalist camp's strategic alliance in the military after World War II, an extension and development of the Marshall Plan in the military field, allowing the United States to control the defense system of the European Union, and a symbol of the United States' leadership as a world superpower. In 1999, at 11:45 pm Belgrade time on May 7th (5:45 am Beijing time on May 8th), NATO, led by the United States, blatantly bombed the Chinese Embassy in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
