Description

The State of Tanau was founded in 1902 by a group of Californian traders taking a trade route to China, who found it from an eruption from Mt. Savali, which they named on the spot. During WW2, the Japanese occupied the island for half a year, when it was taken back by the US Navy, which established a Naval airbase on Eloise Island, which was turned to a Tanau National Guard installation in 1960. The State is made up of several islands in the Tanau Atoll. The leading law enforcement agency is the Tanau State Patrol, which is headquartered in Palomino, the capital city of Tanau. The state's largest industries are fishing and offshore oil drilling, which bring most of the income to the state via taxes and subsidies from the United States federal government.
