Description
The real Peaky Blinders had their heyday at the end of the 19th century, when they were involved in smuggling, robberies, kidnappings, murders and other criminal activities. The gangs were a result of the enormous poverty birmingham was facing at the time. Young men were often able to escape poverty only through violence and theft and joined various gangs known as the Peaky Blinders. The series portrays the Peaky Blinders as one cohesive gang, and that's pure fantasy. So are the main characters in the series. The Shelby family never actually existed, and the power the gang wields over Birmingham and later large parts of England is also greatly exaggerated.
