Description
Possibly the most famous regiment within the Swedish Army during the Finnish war, the Björneborg regiment was raised in the province of Björneborg 1626, and saw heavy fighting spanning many wars. Two thirds. of the Regiment fought at Stralsund and held off the French army at Denim but the battalions were forced to move back to Finland. After the Finnish war against Russia began the regiment fought at Siikajoki and Lapua, where it gained its legendary status. The regiment under command of Major General von Döbeln would save the entire Swedish army in Finland from total encirclement by the Russians at the battle of Jutas. In 1809 the regiment was disbanded after Finland fell.
