But have recently been called a former shadow of their former self with the new Tsar Nicholas II not even being fit to rule. Pre Great War, Russia was under the rule of Tsar Nicholas II and on the brink of significant historical changes. The country entered World War I as one of the Allied Powers, mobilizing millions of soldiers on the Eastern Front. Russia faced economic and social challenges, with a predominantly agrarian society and limited industrialization. Political unrest had been simmering for years, and the Russo-Japanese War and the Russian Revolution had contributed to the discontent. This unrest, combined with the strains of World War I, would lead to the Russian Revolution, ultimately resulting in the overthrow of the tsarist regime and the establishment of the Soviet Union.
