Description

Barisan Nasional (also known as BN) is a coalition party in Malaysia that was established on 1 January 1973 as a successor to the Alliance Party. This coalition party continued its rule (including the Alliance era) since independence until it lost in the Malaysian general election 2018. Its headquarters is located in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. This coalition party often wins the number of seats in every state in Malaysia. In the 14th General Election (GE-14), this party lost its majority for the first time in history by winning only 79 of the 222 contested seats. At the state level, Barisan Nasional controls the State Legislative Assembly in Pahang and Perlis only. The parliamentary seats held now[when?] have been reduced to 43 seats, after a number of BN MPs left the United Malays National Organization (UMNO). BN in the 2022 General Election (GE-15), had a declining performance after corruption sentiments. This includes the heavy defeat in GE-15.
