První samostatné letecké útvary československých legií vznikly v Rusku, kde byl koncem února 1918 zřízen ## ############## letecký a automobilní oddíl, jenž měl k dispozici tamní francouzské vojenské sklady. Činnost jednotky negativně ovlivnil postup německé armády do Ruska zmítaného občanskou válkou a rovněž vynucené předání pěti letounů ########### K prvnímu #### ####### ########## letadla došlo 10. dubna 1918, kdy odstartoval letoun Sopwith 1½ Strutter pilotovaný Lvem Melčem a Josefem Skálou. Krátce po ###### však letci ######### řízení a stroj byl při ######## přistání těžce poškozen. Letouny legií byly využívány především k ########## úkolům. K první ztrátě v boji došlo 16. října 1918 při stíhání bolševického ############ letounu, kdy padl ruský příslušník jednotky praporčík Vladimirov. Na počátku roku 1920 se letecký oddíl spolu s dalšími legionáři přepravil z Vladivostoku do vlasti.
