Description
The Kartvelian Democratic Republic declared independence on May 26, 1918, following the collapse of the Russian Empire after the 1917 Revolution. Despite Soviet attempts to reclaim the Caucasus, Kartvelia remained independent, successfully defending its sovereignty throughout the 1920s and 1930s. During World War II, Georgia maintained a stance of strict neutrality, refusing to align with either the Allies or the Axis.
