“Council of Elders” The Ephors throughout Spartan history have reigned as the preeminent governing authority; their authority second in magnitude solely to the distinguished Agiad and Eurypontid monarchs. The Ephors wield dominion over the spheres of political governance, civil order, and cultural preservation.
