𝐁𝐲𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐮𝐦 533-534 North Africa Campaign 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚 cosl 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Under Justinian I, the Byzantine Empire saw several significant achievements. He launched a successful military campaign to reconquer much of the former Western Roman Empire, including Italy and North Africa. He also commissioned the creation of the "Code of Justinian," a comprehensive compilation of Roman law that served as the basis for legal systems throughout Europe and the Middle East for centuries. The reign of Justinian saw a flourishing of the arts, including the construction of the magnificent Hagia Sophia cathedral in Constantinople. Additionally, the era was marked by notable intellectual and literary achievements, with figures such as the philosopher Procopius and the historian Evagrius making important contributions to their fields.
