The Ptolemaic Kingdom was an ancient Hellenistic state based in Egypt that was founded by Ptolemy I Soter, one of Alexander the Great's generals, in 305 BC. The kingdom was characterized by a blending of Greek and Egyptian cultures, and its rulers, the Ptolemaic dynasty, maintained a powerful navy and a prosperous economy fueled by trade and agriculture. The Ptolemaic Kingdom was renowned for its advancements in science, mathematics, and literature, and it was home to the famous Library of Alexandria, one of the largest and most significant libraries of the ancient world.
