Description
The kingdom of Greece established several cavalry regiments during its existence as a monarchic state. These regiments were comprised of mounted soldiers who provided an additional level of mobility, speed, and tactical advantage to the Greek army. The most notable cavalry regiment of the kingdom of Greece was the Evzones regiment, which was established in 1861. This regiment served as the personal guard of the Greek monarch and was recognized for its distinctive uniform, which included a tall fur. During the Balkan Wars of 1912-13, the Greek army expanded its cavalry force by creating several new regiments, including the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Cavalry Divisions. These units were instrumental in securing victories against the Ottoman Empire and helped Greece establish itself as a significant military power in the region.
