𝟕𝟗𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐘𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐍𝐄𝙒 𝐘𝐎𝐑𝐊 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐀 ═────────────────────────────────────────═ After the first battles of the US Civil War, the problem posed by wounded soldiers was realized. After the appointment of Surgeon Charles S. Tripler to Medical Director of the Army, orders were issued to help alleviate the problem posed. Orders issued on May 25, 1862 allowed for each regiment to recruit Surgeons and Assistant Surgeons for treatment of the wounded while regiments were on active duty.
