THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF ROMANIA | RSR: The RSR (Republica Socialistă România) is a Socialist Republic located in the Balkan region, made up of 3 regions, Țara Românească, Moldova and the Ardeal, with new territories re-gained from the USSR after the Eastern War. The current president is Marian Albu. ABOUT THE RSR: - Founded in 1947 after King Michael I abdicated, landing in the hands of Petru Groza. - Petru Groza dies in 1958 and Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej takes power until his death in 1965. - Nicolae Ceaușescu takes power and turns Romania into the Socialist Republic. - After 1968, tensions between the Soviet Union and the Socialist Republic of Romania explode, resulting in war. By 1978, the war ends with the RSR having gained its old territories in Bessarabia and Bukovina. - Marian Albu takes power after Ceaușescu is killed in the first years of the war, in 1971. - Although there was peace, tensions remained resulting in heightened security along borders, such as Checkpoint Tighina.
