Description
The Sicilian Republic The Sicilian Republic emerged after a popular uprising overthrew the rebellious Catholic Free State that had dominated the island. Revolutionary forces quickly secured Palermo and declared full independence, establishing a new republican government that asserted Sicilian sovereignty and sought to unify the island under a single national authority. As the republic consolidated its rule, it expanded its influence across the Mediterranean, bringing northern Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco under its control. A supreme leader was appointed to guide the state, while a Sicilian constitution established a powerful senate to administer the republic and shape its political and territorial ambitions.
