Description
The Ravæsii Varangians are the Empire's elite foreign warriors, recruited from allied nations, distant kingdoms, and honored peoples beyond Ravæsii borders. Unlike the Praetorian Guard, who are sworn directly to the Emperor and drawn from within the Empire, the Varangians serve as living proof that loyalty is valued above birthplace. Renowned for their immense stature, discipline, and battlefield skill, they often fight as heavily armored shock troops wielding axes, swords, spears, and shields. Their oaths bind them not to wealth or conquest, but to the preservation of civilization and the ideals of the True Light. Because they stand outside local politics and noble rivalries, they are trusted as impartial guardians, palace defenders, and battlefield reserves. To become a Varangian is considered one of the highest honors a foreigner can achieve, for it signifies acceptance into the brotherhood of the Ravæsii and the right to stand beside the Empire's finest warriors.
