Description
The Black Mesa complex was built in the 1950s during the Cold War to launch ICBMs and test a complex of launch shafts. Later, it was turned into a huge civilian institute engaged in research in almost every conceivable field. The names of some texture files contain the word "fifties", suggesting that the Research Complex is as old as the Black Mesa itself. Some areas of Black Mesa are described by characters such as ######### as "old" or "abandoned", some areas of the complex are severely worn out, despite the fact that they are still in use. However, on the surface, Black Mesa has more modern designs. Black Mesa conducts various studies and is a highly protected object. So, each employee must pass a series of strict security checks to access most areas. There are guards everywhere, carrying firearms and prepared for emergencies.
