Description
The House of Tudor was a relatively minor and not yet ruling family during the Wars of the Roses, with its significance rooted in a weak Lancastrian claim to the throne through descent from Owen Tudor and Catherine of Valois. Their position strengthened politically through Margaret Beaufort, whose lineage connected to the House of Lancaster, though still not giving a strong legal claim. For much of the conflict between the Lancastrians and the House of York, the Tudors remained on the fringes, often in exile and largely dependent on shifting alliances, until Henry Tudor emerged as the key figure who capitalized on the weakening of both rival houses, ultimately defeating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field and establishing the Tudor dynasty on the English throne.
