Description
Raised in 1739 from independent highland companies and nicknamed the The Black Watch for their dark tartan, the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot spent the 18th century policing the Highlands and fighting globally. They fought in Flanders, North America, and the West Indies. By 1815, they fought fiercely at Quatre-Bras leading to the 42nd playing a huge part in the definitive destruction of the French at the Battle of Waterloo.
