🗾 徳川幕府 Time Period: 1812-1815 Government: Centralized Shogunal Regime 📌𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: In the early 19th century, the Tokugawa Shogunate recognized the growing influence of western powers abroad and decided to ease their isolation policy for the Batavian Republic while still barring other European powers due to the spread of Christianity. The Dutch, eager to maintain influence in East Asia, provided 18th-century technology, including Charleville muskets, and sent military advisors to help grow the feudal armies of the daimyo in an effort to create better relations between the two nations. By 1813, the Shogunate had passed major military reforms while still maintaining most of its isolationist policy, limiting foreign contact to Dejima. After the collapse of the Batavian Republic and the rise of Napoleonic France, Japanese officials reached out to French diplomats. These foreigners introduced new tactics, and organizational reforms, helping to modernize Japan’s army.
