The Royal Realm of England #274110389
OtherENHistoryMedievalEngland
Description
England during the Hundred Years’ War (1337–1453) was driven by a claim to the French crown and a desire to expand its power and influence in Europe. English kings, beginning with Edward III, argued they were the rightful rulers of France through royal lineage. The war became a test of national prestige, military innovation, and economic ambition. England relied on professional armies, the deadly longbow, and strong naval control to challenge the much larger French kingdom. Victories like Crécy, Poitiers, and Agincourt strengthened English identity and pride, even as the long conflict strained the crown’s finances and fueled internal unrest. Ultimately, the war helped shape England’s sense of nationhood, military tradition, and rivalry with France, despite ending in the loss of most English territories in France.
