ὁ βασιλικὸς οἶκος τῶν Κομνηνῶν • 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐎𝐒 𝐎𝐈𝐊𝐎𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐊𝐎𝐌𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐈 • ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The Komnenoi, the sources relate, took their name from Komne near Hadrianopolis in Thrace, yet the house did not grow great there, but after it passed into Anatolia, into Paphlagonia, where it began to bind itself to power through alliance and command, even fastening its fortunes to the Doukai. The line is first set before us with Manuel Erotikos Komnenos, named as the founder of the dynasty and grandfather of Alexios I, established at Kastamon with other lesser strongholds named beside it.
