If you would like to join the Mountain-guard ask a Mountain-guard Lieutenant to set up a Mountain-guard Tryout. When you are accepted into The Mountain-guard. You will go through Squire ship by a Guard+. The Squire ship will take as long as the Guard+ thinks you progressed.
