The Ministry of Justice and Public Security of El Salvador (Ministerio de Justicia y Seguridad Pública, MJSP) is the government institution responsible for coordinating national policies on justice, law enforcement, and public safety. Established in 2006, it oversees key institutions such as the National Civil Police, the National Academy of Public Security, the Directorate of Penal Centers Its mission is to guarantee citizen security, reduce crime and violence, manage the prison system, support victims of violence, and promote respect for human rights while fostering peaceful coexistence and development. In recent years, the ministry has played a central role in El Salvador’s security strategy, including large-scale anti-gang operations and the management of high-security prisons.
